1 Insight From Me
Book: "Games People Play" by Eric Berne
In Games People Play, Eric Berne uncovers the psychological games we unconsciously engage in, which shape how we interact with others. He introduces three personas—Parent, Adult, and Child—that govern our behavior in relationships. The Parent represents authority and rules; the Adult is rational and problem-solving; and the Child is emotional, spontaneous, and creative. Recognizing which persona is active in a conversation can help break free from limiting patterns and encourage more authentic, productive exchanges.
For example, in a team meeting, if a colleague takes on the Parent role in a negative way—criticizing ideas and stifling creativity—you can step into your Adult persona to redirect the conversation, saying something like, “Let’s explore these ideas first before we dismiss them.” This encourages a more open, creative environment and helps stop the limiting behavior from taking over.

"We are all playing games all the time. The only way to stop playing games is to become aware that we are playing them." — Eric Berne
1 Question For You
What games have you been unknowingly playing in your own life, and how can you shift from playing to creating more honest and meaningful connections?

1 Insight From Me
Book: "Make Time" by Jake Knapp & John Zeratsky
Reading Make Time didn’t give me more hours—it gave me permission to stop trying to do it all at once. Between managing critical services at Amazon, coaching soccer, serving as school board president, keeping my marriage strong, making time for my kids, staying healthy, running a creative business, filming YouTube content, and occasionally… breathing—it was easy to feel like everything was a priority. But everything can’t be.
Make Time taught me to choose a daily “Highlight”—one thing that gets my full presence. That might be reviewing a key project doc, capturing a golden-hour B-roll shot, or introducing a new skill to my soccer players at practice. That small shift helped me stop reacting and start intentionally showing up.
It’s not hustle—it’s focus. And that focus? It saves everything else from falling apart.

1 Quote From Others
“The default pace of modern life is faster than our systems can handle. Make Time isn’t about productivity. It’s about intention.”
– Jake Knapp

1 Insight From Me
Book: Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday
Every time I’ve let ego take the lead, it’s rushed the process, burned the bridge, or chased validation that didn’t even matter the next morning.
Ego’s loud when I’m uncertain. It wants to prove something instead of learn something. But over time, I’ve learned that real progress doesn’t flex. It just shows up consistently—quiet, focused, dialed in. The times I’ve grown the most were when I shut up, listened harder, and stayed curious. Not when I was trying to impress, defend, or dominate the room. Ego talks. Purpose builds. And these days, I’m trying to build.

1 Quote From Others
“Ego is the enemy of what you want and of what you have: Of mastering a craft. Of real creative insight. Of working well with others. Of building loyalty and support. Of longevity.” — Ryan Holiday
1 Question For You
Where in your life are you letting ego drive the car? What happens if you hand the wheel to purpose instead?

1 Insight From Me
Book: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
The War of Art is less a book and more a mirror. Pressfield doesn’t sugarcoat it: your biggest enemy isn’t lack of time, talent, or tools. It’s Resistance—that invisible force that shows up the moment you sit down to build, write, launch, or lead.
Resistance is clever. It disguises itself as procrastination, overplanning, even perfectionism. But its only goal? To keep you exactly where you are.
Pressfield makes it clear: the cure is professionalism. Show up. Every day. No excuses. Art isn’t born in bursts of inspiration—it’s chiseled out of routine, discipline, and a willingness to do the work even when the muse ghosts you.
This book isn’t about creativity. It’s about commitment. Because if you're waiting to feel ready, you're already losing the war.

1 Quote From Others
"Resistance will tell you anything to keep you from doing your work. It will perjure, fabricate; it will seduce you. Resistance is insidious. It will reason with you like a lawyer or jam a knife in your heart like a thug. Resistance is always lying and always full of shit.”– Steven Pressfield

Book: 13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don’t Do by Amy Morin
Raising strong kids starts with unlearning your own emotional habits. In 13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don’t Do, Amy Morin flips the parenting script. This isn’t about overprotecting or overcorrecting—it’s about modeling resilience.
Mentally strong parents don’t chase perfection. They don’t let guilt guide their decisions. And they don’t outsource their child’s strength to rules or rewards. Instead, they embrace discomfort, enforce boundaries with calm confidence, and let natural consequences teach what lectures can’t.
Strength isn’t in shielding your child from struggle—it’s in walking beside them through it without flinching. This book reminds us: your mindset is their blueprint. If you want to raise a leader, you can’t lead from fear.

1 Insight From Me
Book: Be Water, My Friend by Shannon Lee
Bruce Lee’s philosophy wasn’t just about martial arts—it was about mastering the art of living. In Be Water, My Friend, Shannon Lee distills her father’s teachings into something elemental: adaptability isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom in motion.
To be like water is to embrace change, not out of passivity but with intention. Water doesn’t force its way forward—it senses, reshapes, and redirects. It will wear down mountains, slip through cracks, and still reflect light with perfect clarity.
In a world that demands certainty, Bruce Lee invites us into presence. He reminds us that identity is fluid, not fixed. That our strength is not in rigidity, but in response. True power, he teaches, is the ability to move through life—not armored, but aware.
To “be water” is not to retreat. It’s to advance—calmly, creatively, and completely free.

Lily Lake sits quietly beneath the watchful rise of Estes Cone, reflecting the sky like a whispered secret. The water mirrors pine-draped slopes and jagged granite ridges, blurring the line between earth and sky. This is a place where stillness isn't silence—it's clarity. A gentle reminder that power doesn’t always roar. Sometimes, it flows, listens, and reflects.

Book: Unfuck Yourself by Gary John Bishop
Bishop challenges the idea that transformation starts with belief. He argues it begins with responsibility. You don’t have to wait to feel empowered—you just have to own your reality. The mind can spin stories, but only your actions write the truth. This is about breaking the contract with your excuses and signing one with your future self.

1 Insight From Me
Book: The Nolan Variation by Tom Shone
Nolan doesn’t just tell stories—he sculpts time. His films challenge us to rethink how we experience reality itself. Behind the lens, he’s bending our perception into something poetic and paradoxical. Think less "plot" and more "perspective."
1 Wallpaper
“Twilight in the San Juans”
As the sun slipped behind the ridge, it left one last ember of light on the mountain’s crown—a fleeting farewell. Below, a waterfall whispered through stone, and a long-forgotten cabin stood watch beneath a sky preparing to rest.
I didn’t chase this moment. I arrived, and it waited.
In a world that demands constant motion, let this serve as a reminder: some of the most beautiful things happen just as the day lets go.

"I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of subjectivity—how our perception of time can be bent by memory, emotion, or trauma." — Christopher Nolan

James Clear’s 2-Minute Rule says: make the first step of any habit so simple it feels ridiculous to skip. Reading for an hour? Start by reading one page. Running five miles? Start by tying your shoes. Then, stack it. Anchor your new habit to something automatic you already do: "After I brush my teeth, I’ll stretch for two minutes." Master the art of starting, and your future self will do the heavy lifting.

“This past weekend I was reminded that “Your body is not a machine—it’s a messenger. That tight chest, that restless sleep, that ache in your gut? They’re not inconveniences. They’re conversations your soul is trying to start. Movement isn’t just exercise—it’s prayer in motion. Stillness isn’t laziness—it’s where your spirit gets recalibrated. When you care for your body, you’re not just stretching muscles—you’re stretching your capacity to feel, heal, and be present.

"Lately, I’ve been running on fumes—like my brain has 42 tabs open and not a single one is playing music I actually like. We’re expected to be always available, always performing, always grinding. But here's the truth: rest isn’t lazy—it’s strategy. So I unplugged. Not just the phone. Me. No calendar, no screen, just a quiet moment and the sky. And you know what? It worked. The old IT Helpdesk trick always works. Have you tried turning yourself off and back on again? "

I live by the saying that the best camera is the one you have. That could mean to appreciate what you have, it could mean to use what you have available to you. What it mostly means to me is to capture the moment. So if the camera I have is a Sony A1 Mark II, a Fuji film camera, my iPhone, or just my eyes. Taking in the world around me one pixel at a time is the best way to capture a memory or a moment. I have had a camera in my hand since I was a kid and when I look at my old photographs, I never wish I had a better camera. Standing about 15 feet from a Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep made me realize this.

"Sometimes I forget that life isn’t just calendars, calls, and caffeine. Then I step outside, touch some rocks, nearly tip over a vehicle, and boom—instant reset. "Camping isn’t just about the escape—it’s about the perspective. Sitting in a tent, listening to river’s rhythm, journaling on a keyboard rebuilt with my own hands—I realize joy is in the details. The drive here was chaos, ice and sleet turning highways into hazards, but it was a lesson in control, in knowing my vehicle, in adapting. Material things don’t define us, but they do enable the experiences that shape us. While I enjoy winter camping, I did think about another epic and much warmer camping trip to Arizona. It was a pivotal moment for me in my filmmaking journey. The something for you newsletter is an email that focuses on 4 things to help you thrive. Each message includes: 1 insight from me, 1 wallpaper, 1 quote, and 1 question for you to consider.
1 Insight From Me
"Creativity thrives on constraints. Too many options breed hesitation. Too few options spark innovation. The challenge isn’t a lack of tools—it’s the discipline to create within limitations."
1 Wallpaper
During a trip from Park City, UT down to Alamagordo, NM. I saw the most beautiful horses eating as the sun set. I don’t always get to stop and get the shot. I appreciate the moments when I can slow down and take a photo. These are the photos I save for myself that keep me motivated to get out and see the world. Links to download a Phone and desktop version are below.
1 Quote From Others
Filmmaker Robert Bresson on simplicity:
"Make visible what, without you, might never have been seen."
1 Question For You
If your creativity was a muscle, how are you training it this week?
